The length of a ride a Disneyland shouldn’t be as long as a feature film but in the case of Star Wars, it will come close. According to the blog Disney and More, the Rise of the Resistance ride at Galaxy’s Edge will be a staggering 28 minutes long. For those keeping score, that’s about one fourth the length of the first Star Wars movie in 1977, and about 1/5 the length of the longest Star Wars movie ever, The Last Jedi.
On the interactive ride, guests will be captured by the First Order and held as prisoners on the Star Destroyer. As members of the Resistance, they’ll then have to try to escape the clutches of Kylo Ren and defeat the AT-AT walkers.
“[Rise of the Resistance] is going to be a much bigger experience than anyone realizes,” blogger Alicia Stella revealed in her Theme Park Stop podcast on January 17. “I’ve heard that the entire thing is going to be 28 minutes long… and there are going to be 305 animatronics on the ride which is insane… and 18 different show scenes.”
While Disney has yet to confirm the length of what Scott Trowbridge, a creative executive at Disney Imagineering, calls “the most epic attraction we’ve ever built,” they have released a sneak peek of what both the ride and the park as a whole will look like.
In the clip, Trowbridge summarizes the main gist of Rise of the Resistance: “This attraction invites you to be recruited to the Resistance and stand up against the First Order. And you even come face-to-face with Kylo Ren. You make it through that, you get back to the planet, you’ll be a hero of the Resistance and be celebrated throughout the land.”
The exact opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is still unknown. However, the company has announced that the long-awaited themed area will open at Disneyland sometime in summer 2019 and at Walt Disney World a few months later in the fall.
