Star Wars: Episode IX will sidestep a lot of potential plot problems by skipping one year into the future.
Lead actor John Boyega revealed the timeline of the next “Star Wars” instalment when discussing the film with Empire Magazine, per Discussing Film . Boyega, 26, said “Episode IX” will take place one year after the events of “The Last Jedi”.
A time-skip would solve many issues presented in the aftermath of director Rian Johnson’s “The Last Jedi”. Most glaringly, director J.J. Abrams can circumnavigate any complications presented with Princess Leia following the untimely real-life passing of Carrie Fisher.
“Episode IX” will address the death of General Leia, actor Oscar Isaac previously revealed, and what sort of impact her death has on characters like Kylo Ren and Rey.
The final entry in the most recent “Star Wars” cinematic saga premieres Dec. 20, 2019.
